Update on COVID-19: 26 May 2020

The practice would like thank all our patients for their understanding during this pandemic; it is an unprecedented time for our local community. Services and working practices within the surgery have changed significantly in line with Welsh Government recommendations. As we move into the third month of lockdown we wish to update you on the changes we have put in place for the safety of patients, staff and clinicians.

Brecon and Sennybridge Surgeries

In line with Welsh NHS advice, most consultations occur remotely via telephone and if appropriate, via video. If it is clinically necessary for a patient to be seen face to face, the triaging doctor will liaise with the patient and arrange an appointment the same day with a GP consultant from our Tannery building. Patients are asked to attend at a specified time and to refrain from attending the main surgery entrance.

The consulting GP will be wearing protective equipment and will contact the patient before entering the clinical room. Dedicated parking bays are marked for those arriving by car.

Our nursing team continue to provide face to face services for clinically appropriate cases in the main surgery building. Patients attending for these services are greeted at the door by a member of the nurse team wearing protective equipment and screening checks are undertaken.

We continue to support patients with chronic disease and a member of the nurse team will undertake telephone reviews of these patients.

Childhood immunisations and checks continue to be provided from our Child Health Suite.

At present we are not able to offer routine health screening.

Sennybridge Health Centre remains temporarily closed due to resource and service delivery issues. It is appreciated that this is not ideal for the community and is regularly reviewed by the doctors alongside service provision for the whole practice population.

Prescription Collection and Requests

The practice has set up a designated area for medication collection in line with government recommendations around social distancing to support the service delivery through a window at Brecon surgery main building. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this change.

Medication may be ordered via our online Repeat Medication Request form, My Health Online or by dropping the request into the designated letter box at the practice.

Several volunteer groups are working with the practice to support and assist patients who are unable to attend to collect medication. We are very grateful to them. Contact details for them can be found in a separate notice on this website for PAVO, Accessibility Powys, Yscir Ward.

We are working on longer term plans according to guidance from government and health departments and will update in due course.

Diolch yn fawr.
